Working in the construction industry can be dangerous and there are many high risk hazards which need to be eliminated or controlled.
Before a worker can carry out construction work they must have successfully completed a recognised general construction induction training course,
When a worker carries out construction work they must:
- take reasonable care for their own health and safety
- take reasonable care for the health and safety of others
- comply with any reasonable instruction by the person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU - the new term that includes employers)
- cooperate with any reasonable policies and procedures of the PCBU.
If the worker is carrying out high risk construction work they must be familiar and comply with the relevant safe work method statement.
A worker must be able to provide their general construction induction training card or certificate (if they have recently completed their training) upon request. A worker must:
- not alter a general construction induction training card
- return the card if it has been cancelled.
