Volunteer officers of a 'person conducting a business or undertaking' (PCBU - the new term that includes employers) have responsibilities as officers under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act).
Volunteer officers of a PCBU must exercise due diligence to ensure the PCBU fulfils its health and safety obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 including its primary duty of care to all workers.
In recognition of their valuable contribution to the community volunteer officers of a PCBU are exempt from prosecution as an officer.
