Loadshifting state based certificates of competency
Certificates of competency will not be required from 30 September 2011 for the loadshifting machines:
- front-end loader/backhoe operation (class LB)
- front-end loader – skid steer type (class LS)
- front-end loader operation (class LL)
- excavator operator (class LE).
Employers (or those in control of the plant) must ensure an operator has received adequate information, instruction, training or supervision so that any risks to health and safety are minimised. If you would like to obtain a certificate of competency before 30 September 2011, you can be assessed by a WorkCover accredited assessor and if deemed competent, you will be given a notice of satisfactory assessment (NSA). You must lodge your NSA and application form at Australia Post within 60 days or risk not receiving your certificate of competency from WorkCover. However, there will be no new assessments or re-assessments for these loadshiftng classes from 30 September 2011.
National certificates of competency
WorkCover no longer issues national certificates of competency however, your existing certificate will remain valid for five years from the date of issue.
WorkCover will send you a renewal package to convert your national certificate of competency to a national licence to perform high risk work before your national certificate of competency is due to expire.
National certificates of competency will continue to be recognised in all Australian states and territories.
Repeal of formwork and explosive-powered tools
WorkCover no longer issues certificates of competency for formwork and explosive-powered tools.
