Premium and debt collection

The NSW Workers Compensation Scheme is funded by the premiums paid by employers.

Scheme Agents are responsible for accurately determining employers’ workers compensation premiums.

Scheme Agents are required to inform an employer of the premium amount payable, due dates and available payment options. This may include monthly and/or quarterly instalments, dependent on the amount of the employer's basic tariff premium.

Scheme Agents are also responsible for the collection of premium and premium-related debts.

Scheme Agents may negotiate payment arrangements with employers who are experiencing difficulty paying their workers compensation premium. If an employer misses an instalment or is having difficulty paying their premium they should immediately contact their Scheme Agent to discuss the payment options available.

Scheme Agents are required to charge employers a late payment fee, which is compounded monthly on the outstanding premium balance, when payment has not been made in accordance with statutory instalment schedules. Scheme Agents can also take legal action to recover amounts owed by employers.
