The following workers compensation benefits are indexed on 1 April and 1 October each year:
- weekly benefits
- death benefits (excluding funeral expenses).
Section 79 and section 80 of the Workers Compensation Act 1987 describe how indexation is to be calculated.
Currently, indexation adjustments reflect movements in the ‘Quarterly Wage Price Index for NSW ordinary time hourly rates of pay excluding bonuses’, published in the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ quarterly publication, the Labour Price Index. These movements are then converted into a 'latest index number'. The latest index number is prescribed by regulation and is listed in a table under clause 11 of the Workers Compensation Regulation 2010.
The Benefits Guide contains information on indexation.
