National trucking industry association NatRoad and WorkCover NSW will hold four workshops throughout regional NSW this week for transport industry employers and workers.
The workshops will provide information and advice on new work health and safety laws, industrial relations and transport industry policy issues.
NatRoad CEO, Chris Melham said “The workshops are designed to help road transport operators keep on top of important changes to work health and safety arrangements affecting the day-to-day running of their businesses.”
“NatRoad is delighted to partner with WorkCover NSW to ensure that its members and the broader industry have access to the right information when it comes to compliance and ensuring workers and colleagues are safe in the workplace.”
General Manager of WorkCover’s Work Health and Safety Division, John Watson, said a WorkCover health and safety expert who understands the challenges transport industry employers and workers face in addressing safety and injury management issues would be the key speaker at the workshops.
“On 1 January 2012 new work health and safety laws were introduced in NSW as part of harmonised national laws,” Mr Watson said.
“WorkCover is supporting business and industry to adjust to the new arrangements.
“The workshops will provide an opportunity for local transport industry employers and workers to ask questions and seek clarification on how the new work health and safety laws affect their workplaces.
“While what was safe under the previous laws continues to be safe today, it is important that transport industry employers and workers understand the key changes.”
