Homecomings
We all want our families to come home safe from work. Yet each year thousands of NSW workers are injured. Some never fully recover.
Those injuries represent lost talent, experience, productivity and opportunities, as well as lost income.
More importantly, those injuries have effects beyond the physical impact on workers and business. Every injured worker has friends, family and other loved ones who may be directly or indirectly affected, both emotionally and financially.
That’s why the Homecomings campaign reminds us that the most important reason for workplace safety is not at work at all.
The facts
- A total of 109,835 workplace injuries (this figure includes all workplace claims whether or not they incurred any time lost from work or were for medical costs) were reported to WorkCover in 2007/08
- There were 124 work related fatalities in 2007/08
- Manual handling incidents were again the most common cause of workplace injuries in 2007/8, followed by falls
- Industries with the highest incidence rates of work related fatalities in 2007/08 were agriculture, forestry and fishing, transport and storage and construction.
